Essay Competition Honors African Americans in Aviation and Space Science
All students in grades 1-12 and undergraduate college students are invited to participate in the 19th annual ASALH/DLAMC-DEA Essay Contest. This contest is sponsored by the Dayton Association for the Study of African American Life and History, the Doris L. Allen Minority Caucus, and the Dayton Education Association. More

Students must select a current or past African American in aviation and/or space science and write an essay describing the following aspects of the subject's life: family, childhood, dream(s) or aviation/space science, obstacles overcome in turning that dream into a reality, and the importance of his/her achievements.

Essays must be received by April 11, 2003 and should be mailed to the Dayton ASALH/DLAMC-DEA African American Essay Contest, 1013 N. Main Street, Dayton, OH 45405. The five grade group winners (1-3, 4-6,7-9,10-12 and college level will have their essays published and will receive cash awards.
