Wright Dunbar Village Welcomes MLK Marchers
On a frigid cold morning, marchers commemorating the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. made their way down West Third Street, the street that also bears the name of the famous civil rights leader, en route to their final destination in downtown Dayton for the annual MLK Rally.
As the hundreds of marchers made their way through the historic stretch of West Third Street known as the Wright-Dunbar Business Village, they were welcomed with hot chocolate and coffee by several business owners in the Village, including staff and volunteers of Wright Dunbar, Inc. Many residents of the neighborhoods were also on hand to serve as well wishers.
This reception was very different from years past, when the marchers were passers by to boarded buildings and an area wrought with blight. This year, not only were the visitors greeted with warm smiles and hot drinks, the physical environment was more warm and inviting. New building facades and several new businesses located in renovated buildings have long replaced the blight of years past.
